APIC Corporation of Los Angeles
awarded Optical Clock Development Contract by DoD/Air force.
MIT acting as sub-contractor
Los Angeles, CA
– June 20, 2011 - Dr Raj Dutt, Chairman and CEO of APIC Corporation of Los
Angeles, CA, a world leader and supplier to the US Military in the development
of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for such military programs as the F-35
Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, announces that APIC has been awarded an
Optical Clock development contract by STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer)
of the DoD (Department of Defense) and the Air Force Office of Scientific
Research.
Designated ‘Optical
Clock Distribution in 65nm CMOS’ (Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor) - a
technology for constructing integrated
circuits - the R&D will be conducted mainly at APIC’s Los
Angeles headquarters in California and its research center in Honolulu, HI,
with MIT in Cambridge, MA acting as the sub-contractor. “In this context an
Optical Clock is used on many digital data communication devices and more
specifically from APIC’s R&D in analog to digital converters” says Dr. Dutt
in announcing the award “APIC’s approach is using on-chip waveguides for
distributing the clock signal optically—the length of the waveguide is
controlled to serve as a controlled delay line”.
The
APIC Team leader during this Phase 1 development is Anguel
Nikolov PhD, who is also the Program manager for APIC‘s DARPA-NAVAIR sponsored
NEW-HIP Program. He is a specialist in developing both new technologies that
lead to new products and identifying commercial opportunities for APIC Corporation
and its commercial counterpart PhotonIC Corp.
